Suurbraak | Mission Village
The Khoi name for the area where Suurbraak is situated, was X’airu – beautiful place or Paradise, probably a reference to the fertile soil and lush vegetation in this valley at the entrance to Tradouw Pass. Founded as Zuurbraak in 1809, it is the second oldest mission station in South Africa. Local crafts include the making of chairs and traditional brooms, and furniture made from alien trees.
